A. Commitments to eliminate Stigma and Discrimination

GADAA commits to amplify the number of voices advocating and educating on dementia to tackle the stigma and discrimination those with the disability face.

Timeframe and/or implementation plan (75 words limit)

GADAA will connect its network of international civil society organisations (iNGOs) to work with each other and specialists (e.g. national Alzheimer associations led by Alzheimer’s Disease International, and people affected by dementia advocating via Dementia Alliance International) to recognise the part they can play in inclusive global action on dementia.

B. Commitments for Economic Empowerment

GADAA commits to highlight the huge costs of dementia care - both formal and informal - for those living with the condition, their supporters, communities and countries; and how this contributes to the $1trillion annual cost of dementia globally.

Timeframe and/or implementation plan (75 words limit) GADAA will advocate for all actors to support implementation of the WHO Global Action Plan on the Public Health Response to Dementia 2017–2025 to ensure people affected by dementia are not disadvantaged.

GADAA commits to advocate for the WHO Global Action Plan on the Public Health Response to Dementia 2017–2025 target that ‘50% of countries routinely collect a core set of dementia indicators through their national health and social information systems on which they report every two years by 2025’ (disaggregated by sex and age).

The WHO Global Action Plan on the Public Health Response to Dementia sets targets from 2017–2025.

D. Commitments for Women and Girls with Disabilities

GADAA commits to champion the rights of women affected by dementia as some of the most-under represented and marginalised persons with disabilities due to the combination of gender, condition and often age.

Timeframe and/or implementation plan (75 words limit)

GADAA will help its iNGO network shape a gendered approach to global action on dementia and to support those already involved in dementia policy and practice to get it right for every woman living with or affected by dementia around the world.

E. Commitments for people with disabilities in Humanitarian Contexts

GADAA commits to provide technical input, build evidence and champion the rights and specific needs of those affected by dementia before, during and after humanitarian emergencies.

GADAA will work with its humanitarian sector network members and partners to advocate that no one affected by dementia is left behind in humanitarian policy and programming.
