Cityshaks Residential Ltd have applied to the Environment Agency for 2 licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract (take) water from Mossdale Beck near to Glenridding at National Grid Reference NY 38446 17932.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 124.56 cubic metres an hour
  • 2,989.44 cubic metres a day
  • 665,280 cubic metres a year
  • At a rate of 34.6 litres per second

Flows permitting the water will be used all year for hydropower generation.

Cityshaks Residential Ltd has also applied to the Environment Agency for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of Mossdale Beck at the same location.

By means of a new weir water will be impounded to facilitate the abstraction of water to the hydropower scheme.
