Citigen (London) Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from three boreholes fed by a groundwater source, the Chalk aquifer at National Grid References TQ 31649 81719 (Borehole 1), TQ 31653 81722 (Borehole 2) and TQ 31663 81727 (Borehole 3). Water will be returned after use to the same groundwater source (the Chalk aquifer) at the same National Grid References, at Charterhouse Street, London.

The application is to abstract water for the purpose of ground source heating and cooling as follows:

Borehole 1 and 3 each abstracting;

  • 119 cubic metres an hour
  • 2,856 cubic metres a day
  • 1,042,440 cubic metres a year.

Borehole 2 abstracting;

  • 108 cubic metres an hour
  • 2,592 cubic metres a day
  • 946,080 cubic metres a year.

The total abstraction quantities will be 346 cubic metres an hour, 8,304 cubic metres a day and 3,030,960 cubic metres a year.
