Cemex UK Materials Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract water from underground strata consisting of the Holme Pierrepont Sand and Gravel Member, which overlies solid geology of the Grunthorpe Member of the Mercia Mudstone Group, at land off the A513 near Orgreave, Alrewas, Staffordshire, at National Grid Reference SK 14917 15217.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

For mineral washing:

  • 500 cubic metres per hour
  • 5,000 cubic metres per day
  • 1,430,000 cubic metres per year

For process water:

  • 10 cubic metres per hour
  • 100 cubic metres per day
  • 28,600 cubic metres per year

For dust suppression:

  • 1 cubic metre per hour
  • 10 cubic metres per day
  • 2,860 cubic metres per year

Make or top-up water:

  • 1 cubic metre per hour
  • 10 cubic metres per day
  • 2,860 cubic metres per year

Between January and December inclusive in each year.
