CEMEX UK Materials Limited: application made to abstract water

CEMEX UK Materials Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a licence to abstract water from underground strata (superficial deposits of alluvial sand and gravel) at Cromwell Quarry, Cromwell, Newark to transfer it to the River Trent at National Grid Reference SK 80855 61689 without intervening use. The application is to abstract water from the areas within the following National Grid References: SK 80186 61529, SK 80306 61600, SK 80385 61442, SK 80294 61391 (Sump A) and SK 80397 61431, SK 80846 61572, SK 80834 61251, SK 80447 61325 (Sump B).
The application is to abstract water as follows:
Sump A:
- 216 cubic metres an hour
- 4,000 cubic metres a day
- 1,050,000 cubic metres a year
- between 1 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.
Sump B:
- 216 cubic metres an hour
- 6,370 cubic metres a day
- 1,050,000 cubic metres a year
- between 1 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.
The water would be abstracted for the purpose of dewatering excavated areas. The proposed abstraction lies within the Lower Trent and Erewash Abstraction Management Strategy reporting area.
