Details of the application

Canal and River Trust has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the River Don at Attercliffe, Sheffield, at National Grid Reference SK 37141 88114 to transfer it to the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal at National Grid Reference SK 37135 88054, without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 730.40 cubic metres an hour
  • 17,625 cubic metres a day
  • 3,685,021 cubic metres a year
  • between 1 January and 31 December inclusive in each year.

The purpose of the transfer is to support navigation on the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal and to protect canal infrastructure.
