The Canal and River Trust has applied to the Environment Agency for 2 licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary full licence serial number 2/27/24/428 which authorises the abstraction of water from the River Ouse at Linton Weir, near Linton-on-Ouse, at National Grid Reference (NGR) SE 49982 59982, for the purpose of hydro-electric power generation.

The variation applied for is to install a second Archimedean screw turbine and abstract water at the following increased rates:

  • 72,000 cubic metres an hour
  • 1,728,000 cubic metres a day
  • 632,448,000 cubic metres a year
  • at an instantaneous rate not exceeding 20,000 litres per second

The Canal and River Trust has also applied for a transfer licence to abstract water from the River Ouse at Linton Weir, near Linton-on-Ouse, at NGR SE 49979 59975. The water will be used to provide flow for a Larinier fish pass and canoe pass.

All water shall be returned to the River Ouse at NGR SE 50012 60026.

The abstractions will take place all year.
