Details of the application

Cambs Farms Growers Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence and to vary a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from an unnamed drain within the Mildenhall Internal Drainage Board (IDB) at Mildenhall, Suffolk between National Grid References (NGRs) TL 68176 79690 and TL 68557 79263 for storage for subsequent spray and trickle irrigation.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • At a rate not exceeding 89 litres per second
  • 320 cubic metres an hour
  • 6,087 cubic metres a day
  • 170,000 cubic metres a year
  • between 1 November and 31 March inclusive in each year.

Further details are: water will be stored in an above ground reservoir for direct spray irrigation and trickle irrigation use or discharged into the unnamed drain between NGRs TL 68176 79690 and TL 68557 79263 for re-abstraction between the same points for spray and trickle irrigation use.

The application also includes a variation to licence serial number 6/33/39/*S/0422 which authorises abstraction of water from an unnamed drain within the Mildenhall IDB at Mildenhall, Suffolk at National Grid Reference TL 67479 78299 for storage for subsequent spray irrigation use at 12 cubic metres per hour, 144 cubic metres per day and 18,000 cubic metres per year at a rate not exceeding 4 litres per second between 1 November and 31 March inclusive in each year.

The variation applied for is: to add the purpose of trickle irrigation and to increase the abstraction quantities to 18 cubic metres per hour, 432 cubic metres per day and 50,000 cubic metres per year at a rate not exceeding 5 litres per second. The application also adds reaches for the purpose of discharging into and re-abstracting from for subsequent spray and trickle irrigation between NGRs: TL67285 77947 to TL67451 78085, TL 67561 78199 to TL 67492 78287, TL 67342 78355 to TL 67075 78130 and TL 66918 78301 to TL 67268 78597.
