Cambridge International Education to surrender Ofqual recognition

Published 18 December 2024

Applies to England

Cambridge International Education plans to surrender its status as an Ofqual-recognised awarding organisation.

Cambridge International Education informed Ofqual in October 2019 that it intended to discontinue its Cambridge Pre-U qualifications and withdraw them from regulation. It confirmed in February 2022 that it intended to surrender its recognition for Cambridge Pre-U at the end of that process and therefore surrender its Ofqual recognition from the same date. It has no remaining students for its regulated provision.

The surrender will take effect from 20 December 2024 and from this date, no qualifications offered by Cambridge International Education will be regulated by Ofqual.

Cambridge International Education had 21 regulated Cambridge  Pre-U qualifications and issued 16 certificates in the last academic year. Cambridge International Education has provided assurance to Ofqual that there will be no adverse effect on any students as a result of this surrender. Any queries relating to this matter should be directed to Cambridge International Education.

When awarding organisations are considering surrendering their recognition, Ofqual will discuss the options for proceeding while ensuring students are protected.

A full list of currently recognised awarding organisations and regulated qualifications can be found on the Register of Regulated Qualifications

Note: Cambridge International Education is part of Cambridge University Press & Assessment. OCR and Cambridge English are also part of Cambridge University Press & Assessment. Surrender of Ofqual recognition for Cambridge International Education does not affect the status of OCR and Cambridge English, and both remain Ofqual regulated.
