The Business Basics Fund supports projects that test methods of encouraging small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to boost their productivity through ways of working and technology.

The Business Basics Fund, a series of open competitions, is the main element of the Business Basics Programme. The fund aims to build evidence on how to encourage SMEs to adopt productivity boosting technology and/or management practices. It is administered by Innovate UK on behalf of BEIS.

Round 3 (closed to new applicants)

In Round 3 we are funding trials only, not proof of concept projects. A total of up to £2 million is available.

Following the completion of the Expression of Interest phase, shortlisted bidders have been invited to submit a full application by noon on 19 February 2020.

Rules and guidance for Round 3 (shortlisted bidders only)

  • the Innovation Funding Service (IFS) will provide shortlisted bidders only with details of how to apply
  • your proposal must focus on technologies which support business and administrative functions, such as payment practices, accountancy and human resources
  • all project work must be carried out in England
  • all selected projects must start on or shortly after 1 June 2020
  • grant funding of up to £400,000 per project is available
  • you must have an independent evaluation partner
