This letter sets out the Competition and Markets Authority’s (CMA) recommendations to ministers in relation to competition issues in the Bus Services Bill.

These include ensuring that local transport authorities seek to make the deregulated market work in the first instance, and that they demonstrate that any distortion to competition created by a proposed partnership scheme or franchising scheme is justified by the contribution to achieving other policy aims.

The response to this letter was published by government on 11 October 2016.
