Details of the application

Brice Aggregates Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number AN/037/0031/012 which authorises the abstraction of water from underground sand and gravel via a sump and pump at Coleman’s Farm, Witham, Essex for the purpose of transferring it, without intervening use, to the River Blackwater at National Grid Reference TL 84097 15560.

The variation applied for is to change the area of dewatering which is formed by straight lines running between the following National Grid Refences:

From TL 83333 16053, TL 83943 16408, TL 84382 15617 and TL 83570 15318

To TL 83135 15796, TL 83821 16408, TL 84430 15730 and TL 83619 15134

The applicant has also applied to change the quantities abstracted as follows:

From

  • 78 cubic metres per hour
  • 1,883 cubic metres per day
  • 687,404 cubic metres per year

To

  • 550 cubic metres per hour
  • 6,138.4 cubic metres per day
  • 2,240,516 cubic metres per year

The instantaneous rate will change from 22 litres per second to 152.8 litres per second.

The applicant also wishes to add a 2nd discharge location on the tributary of the River Blackwater at National Grid Reference TL 83582 15632.
