Breedon Southern Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a variation to a full licence to abstract water from superficial sand and gravel deposits at Willington Quarry, Willington, Bedfordshire (at National Grid References TL 11692 50922 and TL 11725 50851) and to dewater an area from the same source at the same location (between National Grid References TL 12215 50638, TL 12625 50922, TL 12824 50524 and TL 12427 50240).

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 686.7 cubic metres an hour
  • 12,627.2 cubic metres a day
  • 1,168,478 cubic metres a year
  • All year round.

The abstracted water is to be used for the purpose of mineral washing and concrete production. Further details are: The proposed abstraction lies within the Ouse (Newport Pagnell to Roxton) catchment in Upper Ouse & Bedford Ouse licensing strategy area.
