Boskalis Westminster Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the River Mersey near to Bramley Moore Dock between National Grid References SJ 32912 92526 and SJ 32910 92174.

The application is to abstract water all year as follows:

  • 17,500 cubic metres an hour
  • 70,000 cubic metres a day
  • 2,350,000 cubic metres a year
  • At a rate of 10 cubic metres per second.

The water will be used for conveying materials. Sand will be hydraulically pumped to Bramley Moore Dock from a dredger moored within the River Mersey.
