Release

DfE uses a non-consolidated (non-pensionable) amount of the pay bill to reward exceptional performance. The amount spent on such rewards has fallen by nearly £500,000 since 2009 to 2010. Please note that awards paid in 2012 to 2013 related to the performance of 2011 to 2012.

In the financial year 2012 to 2013:

  • the total net cost of the senior civil servant (SCS) and grade 6 (G6) and below awards was £1,516,250 - this is down from £1.98 million in 2009 to 2010
  • 892 awards were made to G6 and below staff and 44 awards to SCS staff, compared to 1,434 staff receiving an award in 2009 to 2010
  • the highest award paid was £12,500
