This guidance clarifies what is required to become a UK conformity assessment body (CAB) for product safety and metrology regulations, and the associated duties.

In the UK, CABs for product safety and metrology are appointed by the Secretary of State for Business and Trade in accordance with the regulations as they apply in Great Britain (GB) or Northern Ireland (NI). They are then listed on the UK Market Conformity Assessment Body (UKMCAB) database, becoming Approved Bodies and / or Notified Bodies for the purposes of carrying out conformity assessment for the GB and / or NI markets respectively.
