Details of the application

Bathgate Silica Sand Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a variation to two licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The first application is for a variation to a full licence to abstract water from underground strata comprising sands and gravels at Arclid Quarry within the boundaries formed by straight lines running between the following National Grid References (NGRs): SJ 77087 60275; SJ 79040 60280; SJ 77090 62599; and SJ 79040 62602.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 707 cubic metres an hour
  • 6,856 cubic metres a day
  • 1,106,553 cubic metres a year

The water will be used for mineral washing, material conveyance and dust suppression.

The second application is for a variation to a full licence to abstract water from the same source within the boundaries formed by straight lines running between the following NGRs: SJ 77650 61780; SJ 77650 60280; SJ 79040 61780; SJ 79040 60280 to transfer it to the Western Lagoon in North Arclid at National Grid Reference SJ 77700 62243 without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 480 cubic metres an hour
  • 11,520 cubic metres a day
  • 1,626,152 cubic metres a year
