We have received a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 for the following:

Could you please supply me with information concerning how much the Home Office paid for Baroness Newlove’s role as Champion for active, safer communities from 2010 to 2011 in (a) fees and (b) expenses, and to whom those fees and expenses were paid? Please state the day rates or other rates that the Home Office used for those fees. Please state what precedents and comparators and advice and other factors the Home Office used to decide on those rates.

We released the following information on 14 September 2012.

Baroness Newlove was paid £20,000 (plus expenses) over a six month period on a three days per week basis. The payments, noted in the table below, were made directly to Baroness Newlove. Please note the expenses paid to Baroness Newlove were for travel and accommodation costs in support of her work as Champion for active, safer communities.

Baroness Newlove was employed as a specialist advisor rather than contingent labour and, therefore, was not paid a specific daily rate. The fee of £20,000 was comparative for similar posts at the time of Baroness Newlove’s appointment.
