Bam Nuttall Limited: application made to abstract water

Bam Nuttall Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a licence to abstract groundwater from River Terrace Gravels at Hardmead Gate Lock near Great Amwell within the area outlined by National Grid References TL 37038 13384, TL 37058 13368, TL 37043 13352 and TL 37024 13368 to transfer it to the River Lee Navigation at National Grid Reference TL 37053 13351 without intervening use.
The application is to abstract water as follows:
- 252 cubic metres an hour
- 6,048 cubic metres a day
- 423,360 cubic metres a year
- abstraction will take place for 10 weeks.
The proposal is to dewater groundwater in order to lower water levels to allow work to replace Hardmead Lock Gate.
