Details of the application

A W Mortier (Farms) Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for two licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

Application Reference NPS/WR/034739 - The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the Black Ditch at National Grid Reference TM 36343 43875 at Hollesley, Woodbridge, Suffolk.

The full new application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 144 cubic metres an hour
  • 3,456 cubic metres a day
  • 250,000 cubic metres a year
  • At an instantaneous rate of 40 litres per second.
  • between November and March inclusive in each year.

The water will be used to fill reservoir(s) for subsequent spray irrigation and/or subsequent transfer for discharge and re-abstraction for spray irrigation under the terms of licence 7/35/06/*S/0016.

Application Reference NPS/WR/035938 - The application is to vary licence serial number 7/35/06/*S/0016 which authorises the abstraction of water from an onstream seepage reservoir at National Grid Reference TM 34755 43302 at Alderton, Woodbridge, Suffolk.

The variation applied for is to allow the abstraction of additional quantities from this reservoir subject to the transfer of water being made into the reservoir from the reservoir(s) that will be filled by the proposed new licence above. The variation is to increase the annual quantity by 250,000 cubic metres to 456,700 cubic metres per year. The abstraction rates will also increase to 7,128 cubic metres per day, 445.5 cubic metres per hour and 124 litres per second.
