This report presents findings from research conducted by Ipsos to better understand how sanctions could be used to encourage compliance with safety standards in the automated vehicle (AV) sector.

The report explores insights gathered from regulators in different sectors through a review of existing literature on sanctions regimes and interviews with:

  • regulators
  • academics
  • AV businesses
  • motoring trade groups

The findings from this research will be used by the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles to inform its implementation of the Automated Vehicles Act 2024.
