ARLA Foods Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number 26 71 302 033 which authorises the abstraction of water from the spring situated near the ebbing and flowing well at Buckhaw Brow, Settle.

The variation applied for is: to amend the hourly quantity to 18 cubic metres per hour, the daily quantity to 350 cubic metres per day and the annual quantity to 127,750 cubic metres per year. ARLA Foods Limited have also applied to update the abstraction point to National Grid Reference SD 80342 65416 and to change the purpose of the abstraction to evaporative cooling, non-evaporative cooling, boiler feed and process water.

The abstraction lies within the Ribble Upper catchment and the Ribble Abstraction Licensing Strategy area.
