Details of the application

Aquazoom Ltd has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the River Derwent near Seaton Village at Cumbria at National Grid Reference (NGR) NY 02095 29625.

The application is to abstract water all year at the following rates:

  • 7,200 cubic metres an hour
  • 172,800 cubic metres a day
  • 62,805,137 cubic metres a year
  • At an instantaneous rate not exceeding 2,000 litres per second.

The water will be used to generate hydro-electric power (HEP) before returning to the River Derwent immediately downstream at NGR NY 02105 29615.
