You will need a licence if you want to:

  • remove buried human remains from the ground
  • examine human remains in the ground

In your application you will need to tell us:

  • contact details
  • why the dig is taking place and where
  • expected age, nature and number of the human remains
  • any likely objections to the excavation
  • what will happen to the human remains after the excavation
