Application to GDS Responsible AI Advisory Panel: privacy notice

This application form is used to express interest in being part of GDS’s Responsible AI Advisory Panel.
This Panel is set up by the Government Digital Service (GDS) which is part of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). The data controller for GDS is DSIT - a data controller determines how and why personal data can be processed. Read DSIT’s entry in the Data Protection Public Register for more information.
What data we collect from you
The personal data we collect from you will include:
- Your name
- Your email address
Our legal basis for processing your data
The legal basis for processing your personal data is:
- Public task: Processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the data controller.
For the purposes of this project, the public task relates to collecting your email address if you express interest in taking part in the Responsible AI Advisory Panel, so that you can be contacted about your application.
Recipients
The only personal data collected through this application will be your email address, this will be collected by DSIT. This email address will be shared no wider than DSIT.
As your personal data will be stored on our IT infrastructure, it will also be with our data processers Microsoft and Amazon Web Services.
Retention
Your personal data (email address) will by kept by DSIT for 1 year after the survey is complete for the following purposes:
- To contact you for any future rounds of recruitment for the Panel
We will not:
- sell or rent your data to third parties
- share your data with third parties for marketing purposes
We will share your data if we’re required to do so by law – for example, by court order, or to prevent fraud or other crime.
Your rights
You have the right to request:
- information about how your personal data is processed, and to request a copy of that personal data
- that any inaccuracies in your personal data is rectified without delay
- that any incomplete personal data is updated - you can include the missing information in your request
- that your personal data is erased if there is no longer a justification for it to be processed
- that the processing of your personal data is restricted in certain circumstances - for example, where accuracy is contested
If you gave your consent for us to collect and process your data, you have the right to:
- withdraw your consent - this can be done at any time
- request a copy of your personal data - this copy will be provided in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format
Complaints
If you consider that your personal data has been misused or mishandled, you may make a complaint to the Information Commissioner, who is an UK independent regulator. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at:
