This inspection examined how the Home Office manages its contact with migrants who are resident in the UK without valid leave to enter or remain. It considered the effectiveness, efficiency and consistency of the Home Office’s contact management and reporting activity, with a particular focus on:
- Home Office efforts to maintain contact with those who are without leave to enter or remain
- Home Office efforts to re-establish contact with those who fall out of contact with the department or who abscond
- the impact of lost contact both on the business of the Home Office and on migrants
