Details of the application
Aldeburgh Golf Club has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is to vary licence serial number 7/35/05/*G/0046, which authorises the abstraction of water from underground strata (Crag aquifer) from a well at National Grid Reference (NGR) TM 44759 58097 and a seepage reservoir at NGR TM 44729 57778 at Aldeburgh Golf Club for the purpose of spray irrigation. The licence authorises the following combined quantities: 13.37 cubic metres per hour, 170.48 cubic metres per day and 17,047.8 cubic metres per year between April and September each year.
The variation applied for is to remove the reservoir abstraction point and replace it with a new abstraction borehole of 30 metres in depth and 165 millimetres in diameter at NGR TM 44729 57778, and increasing the combined authorised abstraction quantities to: 74.27 cubic metres per hour, 764 cubic metres per day and 44,409 cubic metres per year.
Further details are: Aldeburgh Golf Club has an arrangement to be supplied with 479.53 cubic metres per day and 16,000 cubic metres per year by Essex & Suffolk Water. This variation includes a water rights trade proposal with Essex & Suffolk Water, whereby the club would abstract these quantities themselves and the supply arrangement would cease. This means the actual increase in abstraction over the current licence and supply arrangement is 113.99 cubic metres per day and 11,358.2 cubic metres per year.
