The Environment Agency is proposing to revoke (cancel) 2 licences to abstract (take) water to protect the Alde Ore Estuary Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), Suffolk.

The Environment Agency is required to give notice of this proposal. The Environment Agency give this notice in line with section 52 of the Water Resources Act 1991 (as amended by section 22 of the Water Act 2003) and regulation 31 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The proposal is to revoke licence numbers:

  • 7/35/4/G/89
  • 7/35/4/G/98

Licence number 7/35/4/G/89 allows the licence holder

to abstract 819 cubic metres (m³) of water a day, 22,700 m³ a year during the months of April to September inclusive, from underground strata (sand and gravel) at Farnham, Suffolk at National Grid Reference TM 3810 5858. The water can be abstracted for spray irrigation.

Licence number 7/35/4/G/98 allows the licence holder

to abstract 1,100 m³ of water a day, 60,000 m³ a year during the months of April to October inclusive, from underground strata (chalk) in Rendham, Suffolk at National Grid Reference TM 3531 6593. The water can be abstracted for spray irrigation.

The proposal is to revoke both licences to abstract water.

The Environment Agency have made this proposal as part of a programme to help protect water supplies and improve the environment.
