The tables contain national estimates on the number of:

  • adults with a dependence on alcohol
  • alcohol dependent adults who have children living in the household

Health commissioners can use this resource to estimate the number of alcohol dependent adults in their area, and the number of adults that need specialist treatment. This can help with planning and improving alcohol treatment services.

The resource provides 5 years of national and local authority estimates of the number of alcohol dependent adults, and is ordered by age and gender. Estimates are based on the 2014 Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Survey.

The prevalence, trends and amenities to treatment report published by the University of Sheffield provides analysis and commentary on the estimates.
