A.K. Sharpe & Sons has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the River Mersey between two reaches at National Grid References (NGRs) SJ 66603 88977 and SJ 66878 89196 and NGRs SJ 67433 89180 and SJ 67790 89142 at Moss Side Farm, Rixton, Warrington, Cheshire WA3 6DU.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 100 cubic metres an hour
  • 2,400 cubic metres a day
  • 60,000 cubic metres a year
  • Between April and October inclusive in each year.

The water will be used for the spray irrigation of main crop potatoes.

The proposed abstraction lies within the Lower Mersey and ALT Abstraction Licensing Strategy.
