Affinity Water Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number 29/38/01/0040, which authorises the abstraction of water from underground strata comprising of Chalk in Hertfordshire.

The variation applied for is to:

  1. No longer aggregate the borehole at abstraction point ‘B’ with the borehole at abstraction point ‘A’ and with licence number 29/38/01/0041.
  2. Include an additional purpose for the transfer of water from abstraction point ‘B’ to the River Lee.
  3. Allow abstraction from the borehole abstraction point ‘B’ at a rate of: 62.5 cubic metres per hour, 1,500 cubic metres per day and 549,000 cubic metres per year. At an instantaneous rate not exceeding 17.4 litres per second.
  4. Reduce the daily abstraction rate from the borehole at abstraction point ‘A’ from 11,090 cubic metres per day to 9,706.00 cubic metres per day.
