The Cabinet Office requires Non-Departmental Public Bodies (NDPBs) to be reviewed every 3 years by their parent department. The Triennial Review of the Advisory Committee on Releases to the Environment (ACRE) was launched on 25 March 2014.

The review concludes that the Committee is important in underpinning the Government’s policy of ensuring that GM technology is used in a safe and responsible way. Therefore it is necessary for its functions to continue.

The review concludes that ACRE is effective and delivers a high quality service. It remains appropriate for ACRE to remain as an advisory NDPB.

The report includes a full assessment of the bodies’ compliance with the Cabinet Office principles of good corporate governance.
