12 September 2017: Skin Prick Test Allergens to healthcare professionals

Published 30 November 2017

ALK-Abelló Ltd complained about the advertising of unlicensed medicines to healthcare professionals by Bio-Diagnostics Ltd at the Allergy Academy meeting which was held at St Thomas’ Hospital in London on 25 April 2017. The complainant was concerned that the Bio-Diagnostics stand displayed several skin prick test allergens, which were not licensed in the UK, and a pack of information was available for delegates.

The MHRA upheld the complaint with regard to the information pack only.

Bio-Diagnostics confirmed that they have withdrawn the information pack and have undertaken a full review to ensure unlicensed medicines are not promoted in the future. Bio-Diagnotics stated that no medicines were displayed at their stand and the only items on show were products classed as devices and dropper bottles containing water for demonstration purposes.
