In July 2026, the Council for Science and Technology (CST) wrote to the Prime Minister with advice on how to achieve stability and growth in the UK chemical sector.  

CST made 2 recommendations to government:  

• appoint a minister with accountability for safeguarding the UK’s critical chemical capabilities and delivering future innovation.
• develop a clear long-term roadmap for the chemical sector within the next 12 months.
