Details

These documents set out the outcomes of the A1 Newcastle Gateshead western bypass feasibility study.

The leaflet provides a simple overview of this study and its outcomes. The report provides more detail of our decisions following the study.

The route has some of the most congested highway links in the region and it needs to perform well to support local growth. The study was carried out to identify opportunities and investment solutions for improving the bypass, easing congestion and improving transport connectivity.

The results of the study informed our ‘Road investment strategy’ (RIS) and particularly the ‘RIS investment plan’.
