James Ford

Biography
James Ford is Deputy Head of Mission at the UK Delegation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), based in Vienna. He took up his position in June 2025.
James has served as a British diplomat since 2008, focussing on foreign policy and security issues across the wider European region. He has previously been posted to Moscow (2010-2013), to Ankara (2015-2019), to the European Union in Brussels (2019-2022), and to Stockholm covering the Nordic Baltic region (2022-2023).
James studied Modern History at Oxford University and International Affairs at Sciences Po Paris.

The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister.
