Alex Milward
Biography
Alex Milward has been appointed His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for North America and His Majesty’s Consul General to New York, taking up the position in August 2026.
Alex brings more than 30 years of experience across the private and public sectors, spanning a wide range of industries including digital, energy, defence, pharmaceuticals, advanced manufacturing and professional services. Most recently, he served at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, which he joined in 2021 to lead the UK’s Carbon Capture programme.
Alex holds a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Electronic and Manufacturing Engineering from Loughborough University and a Master of Science (MSc) in Management from the University of Oxford.
British Consul General to New York
The Consul General is the senior UK official in a Consulate General, which is a subordinate office to the Embassy or High Commission, usually located in another major city. The Consul General represents the UK government and is typically responsible for consular, visa and trade activities in their city or region.
The Consul General leads the government’s work promoting UK economic, commercial, political and consular interests in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Fairfield County, Connecticut.
