Procurement at RWM

Our contracting approach is based on working collaboratively.

We work collaboratively with organisations across the nuclear and government estates and with radioactive waste management organisations in other countries to obtain value for money benefits from common procurement requirements.

The current strategy is based on working collaboratively with a small number of key delivery partners while maintaining access to specialist contractors.

This approach enables:

  • larger packages of work
  • greater collaborative working with the supply chain
  • best value for the UK taxpayer through increased internal and supply chain efficiency (reflected through more competitive rates and/or increased value for money)
  • access to the small and medium size enterprises.

A key challenge is the integration of a very diverse supply chain. This includes learned individuals, small to medium sized specialised niche consultancies, academic bodies, non-governmental organisations and ‘traditional’ national and multinational contracting organisations.

We place larger value orders and use a solution based contracting approach. This involves providing the contractor with information about the issue we are seeking to resolve and they come up with the solution. This ensures more collaborative working across the supply chain though integrated project teams focused on delivering innovative and added value solutions.
