In addition, we understand that many of our staff have young children or other dependants and we endeavor to provide flexible working in line with our policies wherever possible, while ensuring that the needs of the business are met.
In order to provide a flexible way of working for staff, some departments in MHRA operate a flexi-time policy. Core hours vary across departments depending on the requirements of the business.
Learning and development
We are committed to providing learning and development for our staff. As part of our commitment to people development, we provide an extensive programme of over 30 different internal training courses which are available for staff to attend, in addition to longer-term leadership development programmes and a 3-month corporate induction programme for staff joining the agency.
We also remain committed to supporting continuing professional development programmes for the large range of specialist groups in the agency. Mentoring programmes are in place for certain specialist roles where on-the-job training is required.
We recognise and encourage the contribution made by diverse teams and individuals within the agency. We are an Investors in People (IiP) accredited organisation, and our commitment to the IiP standard demonstrates the high priority we place on people issues and highlights that people development is key to our organisation’s success.
We are committed to improving internal working relationships and communication through all-staff meetings, briefings at divisional meetings and the use of our intranet. In addition to this, our open-plan offices encourage communication and interaction between staff.
There are also numerous opportunities for staff to act as representatives on working groups and committees across the organisation and have a say in matters that affect the organisation as a whole.
Individual teams can also arrange team ‘away days’ which are an excellent opportunity for teams to interact and work together in a more relaxed environment. This is a way to celebrate success, spend some time together and support each other with further development.
