Welsh Secretary hails “fantastic community effort” after floods
Secretary of State for Wales David Jones visited flood stricken areas in North Wales today.
Secretary of State for Wales David Jones has visited flood stricken areas in North Wales today [Thursday 29 November].
The visit, organised by the Environment Agency Wales, meant that Mr Jones was able to see first hand the help on offer to residents affected by recent flooding in North Wales communities of St Asaph, Rhuddlan, Llanfair Talhaiarn and Glasdir Estate in Ruthin.
Speaking after the visit, Mr Jones said:
I have been so impressed by the fantastic community effort, from supermarkets donating food, charities offering clothes and local authority officials being on hand to give advice to those affected. It is clear that whilst the flooding has had a divesting effect on peoples homes, the communities are pulling together to get through this.
My visit today was an opportunity to thank all those involved as well as reassure myself that help is being given to those affected. The emergency services and other agency, including the Environment Agency Wales, have done an outstandingly good job. I am grateful to them and know that they are all committed to ensuring we learn from each flooding event and ensuring our warning systems are refined.
