Uzbekistan celebrates leaders of the future with award ceremony

On 29 August Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan, H.E. Mr George Edgar hosted an event at the British Embassy in Tashkent to celebrate the award of Chevening Scholarships to two outstanding Uzbek scholars: Mr Azizjon Gapparov and Mr Zamon Holdarov.

Mr. Edgar congratulated the new scholars on their success through the rigorous selection and award process. The awardees were then presented with certificates and travel packages.

The two awardees for 2013/14 currently work in the public sector. Mr Aziz Gapparov works with the Ministry for Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade. He will pursue a Masters degree at the City University of London. Mr Zamon Holdarov works with the Institute of Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research. He will pursue a Masters degree at the University of Birmingham.

Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The programme makes awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study postgraduate courses at universities across the UK. More than fifty talented young people have been awarded with Chevening scholarships in Uzbekistan who are now well-placed to contribute to the development of their country.

The UK Government’s Chevening Scholarships Programme will start accepting applications for the 2014/15 academic year from 1 September 2013.
