Universal Periodic Review 50: UK Statement on Andorra

UK Statement for Andorra's Universal Periodic Review. Delivered at the 50th session of the UPR in Geneva.

Thank you, Mr Vice President,

The United Kingdom recognises Andorra’s progress since its 2020 review and its commitment to upholding human rights. We welcome Andorra’s commitment to gender issues through its 2022 Law on Gender Equality, as well as its announcement of plans to change domestic legislation to facilitate Andorran residents’ access to abortion.

Recognising Andorra’s progress in providing public services to victims of gender-based violence, we do, however, remain concerned about the consistency of access, and encourage the Andorran government to urgently improve this.

We recommend that Andorra:

  1. Continues developing a multi-disciplinary framework for the proactive identification of victims of trafficking and gender-based violence for referral to assistance and support, involving law enforcement agencies, labour inspections, healthcare staff, social workers and child protection authorities, with particular attention to at-risk sectors.

  2. Considers reducing restrictions to political participation and inclusion for ethnic and linguistic minorities and other non citizens.

  3. Amends domestic legislation to protect women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Thank you.
