UN Human Rights Council 63: UK Statement for the Interactive Dialogue on Central African Republic
UK Statement for the Interactive Dialogue on Central African Republic. Delivered at the 63rd Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Thank you Madam Vice-President,
The United Kingdom thanks the Independent Expert for his report and welcomes the Central African Republic’s continued engagement with this Council.
We welcome progress in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting stability since the 2025 elections. However, we remain concerned by ongoing human rights violations and abuses, the continued insecurity in parts of the country, and the impact this has on civilians’ access to justice and basic services.
The UK supports efforts to strengthen accountability, uphold the rule of law, and promote inclusive political dialogue. We also recognise the important role played by the MINUSCA in protecting civilians and supporting long-term peace and stability.
We remain concerned by reports of restrictions on civic space and the vulnerability of women, children and displaced communities. Sustained implementation of the Political Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation, alongside progress on disarmament, reconciliation and accountability, remains essential to securing lasting peace and the protection of human rights.
We ask the Independent Expert, what priority measures should the Central African Republic’s authorities and international partners take to strengthen accountability, protect human rights and secure lasting peace?
