UN Human Rights Council 60: UK Statement for the Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the Right to Development.

UK Statement for the Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the Right to Development. Not delivered due to time constraints.

Thank you, Special Rapporteur, for your report.

Gender equality is a key building block of all healthy, peaceful and prosperous societies. It underpins human rights and is essential for long-term, sustainable development. The UK is committed to tackling gender inequality around the world; empowering women and girls is at the heart of our international work.

We know there are no quick fixes; we need an approach that unlocks the power of all individuals and tackles the drivers of crises. Only then can we deliver lasting growth, stability and poverty reduction. No country can make long-term progress without respecting human rights, upholding the rule of law and tackling entrenched inequalities.

Special Rapporteur,

Please could you share some examples of best practice policy making by States that have successfully included women and girls in decision making to improve policy outcomes.

Thank you.
