On 13 March 2014 UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) hosted a Smart Cities: Smart Living seminar. This showcased UK expertise across a wide range of intelligent technologies designed to enhance the lives of citizens in urban environments.

The event was attended by over 80 delegates from the commercial and public sector in Bangkok, and was addressed by:

  • British Ambassador, Mark Kent
  • the Governor of the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority, M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra
  • British and Thai thought leaders on smart city solutions

The British companies present at the event represented sectors as diverse as machine to machine communications, built environment and protecting critical national infrastructure.

Opportunities for UK companies in Thailand

Bangkok is a metropolis in transition, and its urban infrastructure is undergoing a rapid transformation. Commercial opportunities exist in Thailand for UK technology companies that specialise in providing imaginative and affordable proposals for improving the quality of urban living. Innovative technologies needed include:

  • smart power utilisation
  • development of green buildings
  • integrated concepts for transport, healthcare and waste management

The UKTI team at the British embassy in Bangkok welcomes enquiries from British companies that would like to explore these opportunities further.
