In response to Saudi Arabia’s announcement today, HMA Simon Collis said:

We welcome Saudi Arabia’s $274m donation to the flash UN humanitarian appeal for Yemen. This generous donation will help to provide urgently needed aid to Yemeni civilians in desperate need of health care, water, food and fuel as a result of the ongoing conflict.

We continue to urge all parties to the conflict to adhere to international humanitarian law – including the unfettered access for agencies to deliver humanitarian supplies, and allowing the sick and wounded to access health services. We welcome the recent steps taken by the Saudi Arabian government to improve humanitarian access.

Whilst the we support the Saudi-led military action to deter the Houthis and military units loyal to ex-President Saleh, we continue to work with Saudi Arabia and other partners to consider political means to resolve the conflict, and therefore call on all parties to engage in a process to end the fighting and resume talks to agree a political solution.
