UK welcomes EU decision to freeze assets of members of former Egyptian regime

"The UK has been pressing the EU to take action on Egyptian requests to freeze assets and I am pleased this has now happened" said Foreign Office Minister Alistair Burt.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

In a statement the Foreign Office Minister said:

“I welcome the decision taken by the EU on 21 March to freeze the assets of a number of members of the former Egyptian regime including former President Mubarak

The UK has been pressing the EU to take action on Egyptian requests to freeze assets and I am pleased that this has now happened.

It is now important that the judicial processes are followed through to conclusion, misused funds are repatriated and that anyone who is proven to have abused public money is held to account.”
