The seventh edition of the UK-Italy Business Awards will acknowledge achievements by Italian companies and individuals who invested in the UK in 2013. They all worked on their growth and internationalisation projects in collaboration with the government agency UK Trade & Investment (UKTI). Their success contributed to strengthening the unique partnership which exists between Italy and the UK.

The Awards Ceremony – by invitation only – is organised by UKTI Italy and the British Consulate-General in Milan in cooperation with Borsa Italiana – London Stock Exchange Group, a key business partner since the very first edition. Every year the companies under the spotlight include established Italian firms as well as innovative startups. The awarded companies were all able to take advantage of the opportunities the UK has to offer as well as of government policies in favour of business and innovation.

Developing business with UKTI support

The UK’s inward investment results for 2012/13 were the strongest in three years and confirm the country’s position as the leading destination of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Europe. UK Trade & Investment, the UK government department for export promotion and investment attraction, provides free end-to-end bespoke services to all potential and existing investors in the UK, in areas such as:

  • market information

  • location advice

  • setting up and expanding a business

It can also provide tailored advice on government incentives, labour issues, real estate, transport and legal requirements. Italy ranked third largest global investor for number of projects in the UK during last financial year. Italians appreciate the business-friendly environment that they can find in the UK. In their search for internationalisation, many of them rely on UKTI support and on the comprehensive services it can provide. The Investment Group of UKTI Italy is very active in introducing Italian established enterprises and startups to the UK.

An analysis of sector trends of Italian investment shows an increase in investment related to leading edge sectors, such as advanced engineering, energy, health-tech and ICT, with a cross-over of innovative technologies through different fields. This builds on an already strong base of Italian FDI in the UK economy. Through the years, the UK-Italy Business Awards ceremony has become an important appointment for the Italian business community. This reflects the highly dynamic bilateral relationship between the UK and Italy.
