UK in South Urals celebration in Chelyabinsk
British culture, education, tourism and business came together in the Urals city of Chelyabinsk for a day.
The British Consulate General in Ekaterinburg celebrated the Queen’s Birthday Party in Chelyabinsk for the very first time and out a special Union Jack flag for the occasion.
Hosted by Minister and Deputy Head of Mission in Moscow Denis Keefe, and Ekaterinburg Consul-General James McGuire, the reception took place in Vidgof hotel.
More than 200 high-profile guests from the regional and city administration, business, educational and cultural circles attended.
They were greeted by an experienced, fun and passionate performance company “A Cherry on Top” who have added atmosphere to and dressed events in London, around the UK and worldwide.
Denis Keefe spoke of the strengthening UK Russia bilateral relationship before proposing a toast to the Queen. Elena Murzina, Minister of Economics of Chelyabinsky region, said Chelyabinsk were honoured to host such a reception and hoped to see concrete business deals arising from the trade delegation.
Earlier in the day, Visit Britain held an informative seminar promoting the UK as destination for Russian tourists from the South Urals, a British trade delegation consisting of 15 companies with over 35 delegates held business meetings with potential buyers, and Mr Keefe awarded diplomas to graduates of the Open University business school at the South Urals State University.
All events combined to make a GREAT Britain Day in Chelyabinsk promoting education, culture, tourism and business in the UK.
The reception was sponsored by three British companies representing good examples of UK-Russian cooperation - Newby Teas, Wedgwood and tailors from London Denman & Goddard.
