Lt Col Philip Osment, UK Defence Attaché to Croatia between 2010-13, was presented with a „Zahvalnica“ (Certificate of Merit) by Croatian Defence Minister Mr Ante Kotromanović. Mr Kotromanović said that Lt Col Osment deserved the award for his „extraordinary contribution to the development and improvement of bilateral defence cooperation“ between UK and Croatia.

Mr Kotromanović said that the improvement in the bilateral defence cooperation had also contributed to the „strengthening of the partnership and building trust“ between UK and Croatia. During Lt Col Osment’s tenure as Defence Attaché to Croatia, UK deployed an Army unit to Croatia for the first time, when UK and Croatian troops trained together at Slunj, as part of the 2013 SAVA STAR exercise. That series of exercises will now continue on an annual basis.

Lt Col Osment is also responsible for improving relations between the two Navies, particularly in securing various training courses in the UK for Croatian navy officers and cadets. The ceremony was held in the Ministry of Defence and attended by Chief of General Staff, Lt Gen Drago Lovrić, Assistant Defence Minister Zoran Drča and UK Ambassador to Croatia, David Slinn.
